Dear Move the Mindset Members and Friends,

On Tuesday, July 21, the Lafayette City Council will be discussing a resolution to move the Jim Crow statue. I strongly encourage all MTM members, allies, and supporters to show support for the resolution by choosing one of the methods below. Your support is absolutely critical to the success of our goal to move the Jim Crow statue. In addition to one of the methods below, you may also email the council at donotspeakcm@lafayettela.gov to declare your support for the resolution. Emails should be sent by 12 noon.

Method 1: You can appear in person, fill out a blue card announcing your intent to speak, and give it to the city council clerk.

Method 2: You can appear in person, fill out a blue card indicating your support but you do not wish to speak, and give it to the city council clerk.

Method 3: You can phone the council office and have your name and phone number placed on a list of citizens to receive a call during the meeting. You must call on Tuesday July 21st between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The phone number to call is 337-291-8428. Advise the council clerk you wish to speak on agenda item #7 (Resolution to move the statue). The clerk will take your information and call you during the meeting and allow you to speak to the council members for a maximum of five minutes. Please advise the council in your own words you are in favor of moving the statue. This call will be live and everyone in the meeting will be able to hear you.

Method 4: You can phone the council office and have your name placed on a list of citizens just in support of agenda item #7 (Resolution to move the statue). You must call on Tuesday July 21st between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The phone number to call is 337-291-8428.

I can’t overstate how important your support is concerning this matter. We are on the verge of having the Mayor and Council Members support moving the statue. The mayor has already announced his support for moving the statue and we have reason to believe the city council will support it as well.

With their support we will all go to the court hearing on Aug. 17th and ask the judge to nullify the injunction that prevents the statue from being moved.
