Move the Mindset will hold its annual Juneteenth Commemoration on June 17, 2024. As part of this program, we invite students to submit their creative work for a contest to celebrate this holiday. The winner will receive $150 and the 1st and 2nd runner-ups will receive $100 and $50, respectively.

Finalists will be invited to share their creative work at Move the Mindset’s Juneteenth Commemoration on Monday, June 17th, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Downtown Convention Center (124 South Buchanan Street, Lafayette, LA 70501).



Submission Requirements:

Submissions are due May 24, 2024.

All creative work should address the topic of “Juneteenth” and smaller subtopics such as voting, resistance, or empowerment. All submissions should be of original creative work and only one entry per contestant can be submitted.

Poetry
● Poems can be written in either traditional or free form.
● Poems can be spoken word or slam poetry and students may submit an audio recording of their performance.

Visual Art
● Students may submit visual art that includes drawings, paintings, sculptures, or digital art.
● Pictures of the art should be submitted to the linked Google form below and students are welcome to display their art at the Juneteenth Commemoration.

All junior high and high school students (grades 7th through 12th) in Lafayette and St. Landry Parishes are invited to submit their work.

All submissions should be made by May 24, 2024, via the linked Google Form. Audio and video files should be uploaded to YouTube. Please copy and paste the link to the video into the Google form.
